When used correctly, it can add <strong>analog warmth, punch, and more strength to a mix,<\/strong> and can even work a bit like a compressor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This article explains<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>what saturation actually is,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what types of saturation there are,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to use them specifically in your mix<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and what you need to bear in mind if you want your mix to sound not ruined, but rich.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. What is saturation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--large)\">The term saturation has its origins in the analog world:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>tape machines,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tube amplifiers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mixing consoles &amp; outboard gear<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>were slightly overdriven at higher levels.
