The Calm Mode uses a more transparent compression algorithm, which is very well suited for groups and busses. The Rough Mode is a lot more coloured and is well suited for instruments and drum groups, for instance.
Both modes can be used in a wide variety of applications, so it’s worth it to compare both modes. You can easily do this with the “A/B” feature in the IQ-Series Comp.
